You may be getting ready to jet off to warmer climates and have your summer holiday in Spain, but you may have some questions regarding using your e-cigarette whilst on holiday. Check out our guide below about vaping in Spain and get up to speed with all of the do's and don'ts to ensure you stay on the right side of the law and enjoy your holiday with no concerns!

Is It Legal To Vape In Spain?

Vaping is legal in Spain with minimal restrictions for buying vape products whilst in the country.

Vaping is completely legal in Spain and they have similar rules and regulations to what we have here in the United Kingdom.

These restrictions apply to where you can vape in the country which we will cover further on in this blog, but despite vaping being legal in Spain, this doesn't mean that it is not on the radar of the Spanish Ministry of Health.

In their 2022 report, they declared "E-Cigarettes aren't safe for the consumer." They used short term evidence which showed negative effects of vaping due to the risk of carcinogens being formed within the aerosol vapour which is produced by an e-cigarette.

But 2 years on from this, and despite their lack of belief in the safety of e-cigarettes, there has been no regulations or restrictions applied to vape devices and vape juice in the country of Spain.

Can I Bring Disposable Vapes To Spain?

Yes, there are currently no regulations or restrictions on disposable vapes in Spain.

Unlike England, there currently are no plans for regulations and restrictions being applied to the supply and sale of disposable vapes in Spain in 2024.

You can buy disposable vapes from vape shops and newsagents in Spain much like you can here in the UK.

Can You Vape In Spanish Airports?

Much like UK Airports, vaping within the airport building is strictly prohibited, but there are some airports with smoking/vaping areas past security.

The use of e-cigarettes in airport buildings in Spain is not permitted, and the same goes for smoking as well.

There are plenty of designated smoking and vaping areas outside of the terminal buildings however for you to get your nicotine fix before you catch your flight. And some of the bigger airports in Spain do have open air smoking/vaping areas once you're passed security checks.

Barcelona Airport has an open air smoking area located within Terminal 1, Majorca Airport has a vaping/smoking area past security located in Terminal A and Futureventura Airport also has a smoking/vaping area located outside once you've gone through security.

Ibiza Airport, Alicante Airport, Tenerife Airport, Madrid Airport and Malaga Airport only has smoking/vaping areas before you enter the terminal building and none are located once you've passed security.

Vape Regulations in Spain

As Spain are in the European Union, they adhere to the vaping regulations which were set out in the Tobacco Products Directive 2016.

Spain have the same regulations on vaping as we do here in England as the they follow the TPD guidelines which were initially set out in 2016. They are as follows;

  • E-Liquids cannot excdeed 20mg nicotine strength
  • E-Liquids that contain nicotine must not be sold in bottles larger than 10ml
  • Refillable Vape Tanks/Disposable Vapes must not exceed 2ml total vape juice capacity
  • Product packaging must contain a clear warning that the product may contain nicotine

Where Can You Buy Vapes In Spain?

Spain has a vast selection of specialist vape shops which are spread across the country. Vape devices and vape juice are also available to buy from supermarkets, convenience shops or tobacconists.

According to our research, Spain has many different specialised vape shops and vape kiosks well spread out across the entire country.

We would always recommend buying your vape juice or peripherals from one of these specialist stores as you will get the best advice and service from trained vaping professionals! Some of the specialist vape stores include Bazar Del Vapeo (pictured right) Vapori, Vaperalia and many more.

Vape juice and disposable vapes are also available to buy from supermarkets and covnenience stores, as well as select tobacconist shops will also vape related products.

There are talks currently of the Spainish Government looking to bring in new vaping laws to the country which if they came into effect, could make specialist vape shops a thing of the past.

If passed, strict new laws would mean that e-cigarettes and vape juices would only be allowed to be sold in liscenced tobacconists, which would bring an end to online as well as bricks and mortar vape shops existing in the country.

We would always recommend to take enough supplies with you for the duration of your trip, but it's also good to know that you can still get your essentials if you find yourself running low!
