50-50 E-Liquid FAQs

What Are Freebase Nicotine E-Liquids?

50/50 freebase e-liquids are vape juices made with a balanced ratio of 50% vegetable glycerin (VG) and 50% propylene glycol (PG). These e-liquids are called "freebase" because they contain nicotine in its natural form, rather than a nicotine salt form. This mix creates a throat hit and produces a consistent vape experience.

What Nicotine Strengths Freebase Nicotine E-Liquids Come In?

Freebase nicotine e-liquids are sold in a range of tapered nicotine strengths, making them the ideal choice for new vapers to use who may be transitioning away from smoking.

The nicotine strength of your e-liquid you choose should resonate to the amount of cigarettes you'd previously smoked in a day. If you were a heavy smoker, a higher strength like 12mg or 18mg may be the best option.

But if you were on the other end of the scale and were a light smoker then you can choose from either 3mg or 6mg nicotine strength.

We also offer a select few of our flavours in the EDGE Core range that are 0mg/nicotine free, which is the ideal end goal for any vaper who is looking to gradually reduce their nicotine intake.

What Is The VG/PG Ratio Of Freebase Nicotine E-Liquids?

For our freebase nicotine e-liquids, they are available in three different ranges which are different VG/PG ratios.

For EDGE GO, Core and EDGE Elite, these are mixed at a 50VG to 50PG ratio.

For EDGE Elite HVG and EDGE Max, these are mixed at 80VG to 20PG ratio.

Are Freebase Nicotine E-Liquids Good For New Vapers?

Absolutely they are! As Freebase nicotine e-liquids are available in tapered nicotine strengths, they are perfect for new vapers who are transitioning away from smoking and starting to vape.

You can choose the nicotine strength which is most appropriate to your needs and reflects how much nicotine you'd previously got from smoking.

As well as this, freebase nicotine e-liquids are commonly made at a 50% VG to 50% PG ratio, which delivers flavour, as well as a subtle amount of vapour much like the smoke exhaled from a cigarette and also gives a throat hit effect, which is a combination of the nicotine as well as the PG content of the e-liquid all of which are something many ex-smokers will be looking to replicate.

What's The Difference Between 50/50 Freebase Nicotine And 50/50 Nicotine Salt E-Liquids?

The main difference between these two e-liquids is the form of nicotine used as you may have guessed by the name.

Freebase is the form of nicotine most commonly used in e-liquids and is made by suspending nicotine particles in PG to give an easier mixable solution in e-liquid recipes.

Nicotine salt differs from this slightly in the way that it still uses a traditional freebase nicotine but it's altered to create the nicotine salt. A weakened acid is added to the freebase nicotine which then neutralises the pH levels of the nicotine making it less harsh on the throat and allowing a higher nicotine strength to be vaped comfortably.

Are Freebase Nicotine E-Liquids Going To Be Banned In The UK?

At the time of writing this, there currently are no plans to ban freebase nicotine e-liquids in the UK.

Whilst disposable vapes are set to be banned in June 2025, there hasn't been any official confirmation on what's to come for standard freebase nicotine e-liquid other than a vape tax being introduced per ml of e-liquid from Q4 2026.

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill does mention the Government's intentions to consider restricting packaging as well as certain flavours of e-liquid but the full extent of this is currently unknown.

Why Is EDGE Elite More Expensive Than EDGE Core?

The price of EDGE Elite HVG e-liquids are slightly higher than our EDGE Core range as our flavour experts have used additional premium quality raw materials to produce the Elite flavour.

Is 50/50 freebase e-liquid suitable for cloud chasing?

While 50/50 freebase e-liquids can produce vapor, they are not intended for cloud chasing. For larger vapor clouds, higher VG e-liquids are typically preferred. If you're into cloud chasing, you may want to try a 70/30 or 80/20 VG/PG ratio.

Can 50/50 freebase e-liquids be used in sub-ohm tanks?

50/50 freebase e-liquids are generally better suited for low-wattage devices and mouth-to-lung tanks, rather than high-wattage sub-ohm tanks. Sub-ohm tanks typically work better with higher VG e-liquids (such as 70/30 or 80/20) to produce larger clouds of vapour.

How should I store my 50/50 freebase e-liquid?

To ensure the best quality and longevity of your 50/50 freebase e-liquid, store it in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Proper storage helps maintain the flavour and nicotine potency of the e-liquid. Make sure to keep it out of reach of children and pets.
