Can Vaping Help You Quit Smoking?
It certainly can, and is proving to be one of the most effective methods of smoking cessation amongst UK residents. Vaping is effective because it mimics the action and experience of smoking, unlike NRT like nicotine gum which is a different action altogether. Vaping by comparison emulates hand to mouth action, inhaling and exhaling, not to mention offering tobacco or menthol flavours for a truly like-for-like experience that makes the transition away from cigarettes a lot smoother.
Whilst vaping mimics the effects of smoking, it certainly does not mimic the amount of chemicals produced by a lit cigarette. It's estimated that over 5000 chemicals are produced and harboured in cigarette smoke, with at least over 50 of them being toxic carcinogens. These are not present in the vapour produced by an e-cigarette so vaping also presents itself as a safer option for nicotine consumption compared to smoking.
Public Health England declared in 2016, and then reaffirmed their stance in 2022, that vaping is 95% safer than smoking. Contrary to popular belief, nicotine is not one of the harmful chemicals associated with tobacco products.
